44 is FABULOUS!
Today I'm 44. Don't get me wrong, the forties are fabulous but I look at that number and think, "Holy Smokes! How did I get to be that number?" By living my life, I guess.
Last year I posted a list of what I had learned in 43 years. This year I'm posting this picture of a quilt made by my great-grandmother. I come from women who sewed on both sides of my family and this is a picture of my roots. Grandma made string quilts from the scraps of all the things she made (curtains, tablecloths, aprons, shirts, dresses, pillows, you name it she sewed it.) My Mother calls the quilts the memories of her childhood. So thank you Grandma for the memories. What memories do you have sewn in patchwork? Happy memory-making!

Here's the post where I blogged about it: http://pickledish.blogspot.com/2009/10/aunt-tildy.html Isn't it great to have and do something that connects us to those who have gone?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! I'll leave it to you to break in the 40's for me ok? Have a fantastic year that you'll always remember.
Happy Belated Birthday Shelly! The forties are fabulous! Hope you celebrated in a special way. I love that string quilt. You are so lucky to have such an heirloom. I'm the first in my family to quilt. Hope one day my great grandchildren are as appreciative as you!
Birthday Blessings, Shelly! It is good to be happy at every age of our life, right? Your heritage of sewing is a blessing, too. My Momma sewed constantly, and the sewing machine had its place in the living room or den where everyone else was! I live by that too. May your sewing love grow.
A very late happy birthday hug from me!
Love that string quilt, what a perfect way to gather childhood memories.
I think 44 will be great, it's just around the corner for me....
