Odds and Ends Day

It has been an odds and ends day.  First off, I have been meaning to post this pillow pic.  It is the Japanese + and x block.  I love this little block and have been wanting to do something with it for a while now.  I would like to make a big quilt with this block one day.  Don't now if that will happen anytime in the near future.

Every time I look at this pillow I smile.  This is not the only sewing I have managed around here but pics will have to come after Santa's visit.

I did get some batik scraps out today, I am happy to say.  And obviously I have Hearts on the brain.

Just a little "itchy finger" sewing.  You know when you just think "what if I try this?"

Or what if I do this?

It has been a good "Odds and Ends" sewing kinda day.......

A New Beginning

And so it begins again......

This obsession to cut up small pieces of fabric and sew them back together.....

This is a small project, a pillow, but I definitely want to make this as a quilt.

More to follow......

Happy Freakin Saturday!

First day of school finish!

Today was the first day back to school for my kids.  They were not nearly as excited as I was.....go figure.  I finally have the binding on my Italian tiles quilt and it has been washed.  I am very happy with it.  It was a lot of fun to make and I used some OLD fabrics that I hadn't seen in a long time.

This is one of those quilts that just make me happy!  I really enjoyed every single step of the process on this quilt.  (I have made one or two quilts that I can't say that about.)  I particularly enjoyed quilting feathers but what is not to like about quilting feathers?

And of course I love a pieced back!  Another thing that makes me happy!  Yipee!   ;)

Happy Monday!

Texture

Just as important to a quilt as design, color and pattern is texture.  It can make your quilt sing opera!

And quilting little projects will give you the opportunity to really hone your free-motion skills.

Happy Tuesday!

Feathers

I finally found a big chunk of time yesterday and I spent it making feathers.  An absolutely excellent way to spend a Friday.  I highly recommend it!

It seemed like the stitch in the ditch took forever on this quilt and the free-motion zipped right along.  It sure does look good.

Here is a shot of the back......you can really see the quilting from this angle.  Now it needs a binding and into the washer.......

Happy sewing!

Italian tiles WIP

I love this little block.  I went to my stash and pulled every blue, red and yellow I had.  Then I put them together in groups of 3's.  The center is completely from my stash.

There are a lot of memories in this quilt.  I bought and used this yellow fabric in the 3rd quilt I ever made, which is about 13 or 14 years ago.

This blue was sent to me by a good friend.  It is amazing that a lot of the fabrics I remember when and where and for what project I bought them.  Which is really amazing since if I forget my grocery list I'm in trouble.

And while the center Italian tile blocks are totally from my stash, I just couldn't stand it when it came time to put on borders.  I just had to go see what was at the fabric store.  I sure am glad I did!  It sure did turn out cute!  Today I'm piecing a back.

Happy Sewing and Memory Making!

Still plugging away

I'm still plugging away at these tile blocks.  They are finally all cut.  Now to finish sewing these.

I've made a dent today.  Will try to get a few in tomorrow too.

A Flowery Finish

My Tulips quilt is finished!  I actually had the binding on it earlier this week but couldn't get a picture til today.  And a GLORIOUS day it is to be alive in Austin, Tx!  It is going to be in the mid 70's after a week of real winter.

Here is a detail shot.  I heavily quilted the background to puff out my applique.  It really looks good!

And of course I do love feathers!

Happy Sewing!
