Moody Blues

I have finally finished my Moody Blues quilt.  And it is bound and on my bed.

Joey likes it!

And I did quilt the dog out of this quilt!  This was a very leisurely project using lots of scraps.

Circles and Quilting

There was a time when I was a prolific quilter and blogger but that was a different life.  I still sew but I don't have anywhere near the time that I have had in the past.  I'm not complaining....it just is the reality.  However, I still "think" quilts constantly and I do manage to get a little of this and a little of that done.

I started making these circles for the Circle a day QAL at the first of the year.  I enjoyed making these immensely.  These are a couple of things that came from these circles.

 They do make me happy!

I did manage to get a little quilting in too!  Lori at the www.theinboxjaunt.com recently had this QAL and I thought it looked fun.  I love to free motion quilt and I love putting some scraps together.  I did enjoy this little project.

I hope to get back to this blog a lot more often in near future.

Happy Saturday!

3 Months of Circles

These are my February blocks.  I finished them in March.  The month just got away from me.  Between my daughter's birthday, my birthday, events at work, and company in town, I just couldn't squeeze them in at all.

However, I am happy to report I was able to get back on track in March.  Here are my March circles....  They sure do make me happy!

And here they are all together.....  My what a difference 3 months makes!  I'm thinking they sure do look good!  If you are thinking about jumping in and making circles, DO IT!  It may not be the most fun you can have with your clothes on but it sure is close!

Happy Circle Making!

A month of circles

It has been a month of circles and this little block doesn't get old.  These are a joy to make!

I have also been quilting my Moody Blues quilt.  I am working on getting the border quilted.  It is coming along beautifully and I can't wait to finish is up and put my bed.  And I'm thinking it needs a pillow with some circle blocks on it.....

Happy Monday!

365 Days of Circles

After seeing this post http://quiltyfolk.blogspot.com/2015/11/quilty-365-year-long-quilting-journey.html, I couldn't resist.

I knew these were going to be fun but they are honestly more fun than the law should allow to make.

On another note, I've started quilting my Moody Blues quilt.

I love thread!

The stitch in the ditch is done.  I've started the pretty part.  The rings are done.

I'm going to start on feathers next.....

Happy brand new year of sewing!

The word for the year is Love

It's eight kinds of LOVE!  I could not have had more fun making them.

Summer quilts

It's August in Texas.  Which means it's 102 and not a breeze to be found anywhere.  A good day to wash a couple quilts and lay them in the grass to dry.  These were dry in less than 30 min.

And of course I'm still plugging away at these blue rings.  They sure do make me happy!

Happy summer quilting!

A New Quilt Started

I had to make one.....I love the DS Single Girl quilts.  I rarely do anyone else's patterns.  I like doing my own thing.  And while I am using her block, I felt the way it was done was way too fussy.  And because I have been making quilts for more than 10 yrs (I'm not sure how that happened so fast.) I decided to make this my own way.

So I made a freezer paper template.

I really wanted mine more scrappy and this is a very good way to use up smallish scraps.

Beauty of a Pieced Heart

The beauty of this pieced heart is very much an example of art imitating life.  None of us gets out of this life without heartbreak and disappointments.  However, putting yourself back together and finding a way to be happy is what makes us beautiful, interesting and one of a kind.

This little piece is made with odds and ends and finished up with a little hand work.  It makes me smile just looking at it!

Thank you for bearing with my sentimentality today and I hope each of you can find a way to make something beautiful out of any odds and ends you happen to have laying around.....   ;)

Hearts on the Brain

I have had hearts on the brain lately.  That is all I've managed to work on it seems.

I love the hand work on this one.

Still have more hand work to add to this pieced heart.

And of course the close up so you can see the quilting.

It is a dreary and cold Monday......the perfect sewing weather.

Happy Quilting!

Odds and Ends Day

It has been an odds and ends day.  First off, I have been meaning to post this pillow pic.  It is the Japanese + and x block.  I love this little block and have been wanting to do something with it for a while now.  I would like to make a big quilt with this block one day.  Don't now if that will happen anytime in the near future.

Every time I look at this pillow I smile.  This is not the only sewing I have managed around here but pics will have to come after Santa's visit.

I did get some batik scraps out today, I am happy to say.  And obviously I have Hearts on the brain.

Just a little "itchy finger" sewing.  You know when you just think "what if I try this?"

Or what if I do this?

It has been a good "Odds and Ends" sewing kinda day.......

A New Beginning

And so it begins again......

This obsession to cut up small pieces of fabric and sew them back together.....

This is a small project, a pillow, but I definitely want to make this as a quilt.

More to follow......

Happy Freakin Saturday!

First day of school finish!

Today was the first day back to school for my kids.  They were not nearly as excited as I was.....go figure.  I finally have the binding on my Italian tiles quilt and it has been washed.  I am very happy with it.  It was a lot of fun to make and I used some OLD fabrics that I hadn't seen in a long time.

This is one of those quilts that just make me happy!  I really enjoyed every single step of the process on this quilt.  (I have made one or two quilts that I can't say that about.)  I particularly enjoyed quilting feathers but what is not to like about quilting feathers?

And of course I love a pieced back!  Another thing that makes me happy!  Yipee!   ;)

Happy Monday!

Texture

Just as important to a quilt as design, color and pattern is texture.  It can make your quilt sing opera!

And quilting little projects will give you the opportunity to really hone your free-motion skills.

Happy Tuesday!

Feathers

I finally found a big chunk of time yesterday and I spent it making feathers.  An absolutely excellent way to spend a Friday.  I highly recommend it!

It seemed like the stitch in the ditch took forever on this quilt and the free-motion zipped right along.  It sure does look good.

Here is a shot of the back......you can really see the quilting from this angle.  Now it needs a binding and into the washer.......

Happy sewing!
